Game 4: Mustangs Avenge Last Year's Homecoming Loss

Avenging last year's Homecoming Loss, the Mustang Defense started hot and scored 12 points before the Offense put any points on the board.  Beau Hall had an Interception returned for a Touchdown to start things off before Mason Randall recovered a fumble for a Scoop and Score.  Once the Offense started rolling, Beau Hall ran for 241 yds on 18 carries and acquired 5 Rushing Touchdowns.

Final Score: Tigers 50  Mustangs 0

It was a humbling game against Lyndon as we began the Gauntlet of our district schedule.  This game and the next two weeks, we played some of the most historic 8-Man Powerhouse programs in the state.  Strength of schedule would be beneficial for the team in the long run.  The Mini-Mustangs against Lyndon were Trey Brenton, Dezi Araiza, Blaze Baker, Owen Benefield, Nelly Marsh, Avery Cochran, Aurora Price, and Montana Griffith.

Game 6: A Shoot-Out in Cottonwood Falls

Final Score: Mustangs 48  Bulldogs 62

A back-and-forth affair ensued against Chase County.  The Mustangs scored on every Offensive possession except for two.  The Mustangs also scored every 2-point conversion after each score.  The Chase County QB, however, was an unstoppable force for the Bulldogs.  Forcing a couple more turnovers and a few mental errors cleaned up, this game could have easily gone into the Win column.  It was a second tough loss for the Mustangs.

PLAYER OF THE GAME — Isaiah Fulkerson: 9 Tackles, 1 Forced Fumble, 1 Fumble Recovery

Final Score: Mustangs 20  Madison 42

The TV production class and crew from Butler Community College, BCTV+, were in attendance as our game was the Butler County Game of the Week.  Our defense started the game with a Madison 3-and-Out, followed by a big turnover on downs.  It was Luke Jenkins, Mason Randall, and Jaxon Swafford who shored up the Bulldogs in the trenches.  The offense couldn’t get firing on all cylinders.  This was a tough loss as we had prepared to beat Madison to see Cedarvale week 9.  The loss was the third in three weeks.

PLAYERS OF THE GAME — Mason Randall & Jaxon Swafford: The Nose Tackle Duo - 11 Tackles with 4 Tackles for a Loss

Senior Night started the evening against Yates Center.  It was also the debut of Maximus the Mustang.  Maximus, along with the Mini-Mustangs, led the team out of the tunnel before kickoff.  The Mini-Mustangs against Yates Center were Emma Liebrandt, Paige Town, Hudson Hinde, Ty Scribner, Oliver McNeil, and Ida Liebrandt.  The night was also special as our “Riders on the Storm”, Charli Bohnen and Riley Humbarger, led everyone onto the field on horseback, one carrying the Flinthills Flag and the other carrying the American Flag.  Beau Hall rushed for 279 yds on 19 carries and acquired 6 Rushing Touchdowns.  Deken Girty had a Strip Sack and Recovery for a Touchdown, and the Win Selaed the Playoff Game against Cedardvale-Dexter.

On Wednesday, October 29th, Mr. Casteel took the senior cheerleaders, volleyball players, and football players/manager to Cassoday to sign autographs for the primary students.  Then the group returned to Rosalia, where they signed autographs for the Intermediate students.  This is always an awesome day where we connect our high school athletes with the youngest Mustangs in the Herd.  For the elementary students, this day is like meeting professional athletes in person.

An in-depth look at our graduating seniors will be found in the November Flinthills Flyer.

Game 9: REDEMPTION IN DEXTER: MUSTANGS' HUGE PLAYOFF WIN!

Final Score: Mustangs 48  Spartans 28

A lot of things had to fall into place for this rematch to happen.  For us to have a shot at redemption.  CVD did win the early contest, week two, 50-36, but the game was much closer than the score suggests.  This game left a bad taste in the mouth of the team.  The night we lost to Madison, CVD beat Oswego 88-86.  It is as if the stars aligned perfectly, and it fate that we would play CVD in the first round of the playoffs.  Discipline, Assignment Execution, and Composure define the game.  All aspects of the Mustang Offense, Defense, and Special Teams came together for the best game of the season.

PLAYERS OF THE GAME — Overall:  Ty Finley - 1 Interception, 1 Receiving TD / Offense: Beau Hall - 301 yds on 39 carries with 4 Rushing Touchdowns  / Defense: Luke Jenkins - 2 QB Sacks, 6 Tackles / Special Teams: Deken Girty - 4 Onside Kick Recoveries
