TSA Students Compete at Nationals

Four TSA students recently competed at the state competition, placing high enough to qualify them to compete at the national level, held at National Harbor, Maryland. Jonathan McCreight and Dawson Sharp competed with their mockumentary on Juuling, while Philip Humig and Wade Haynes competed with their board game. Mrs.Austin, the TSA sponsor, was extrememly pleased with their projects. They may not have broke semi-finals at Nationals, but with 8500 people in attendance, including all 50 states, Washington DC, Germany and Turkey the competition was steep. All four young men participated in parlimentary procedure as students decided whether to change job descriptions of their national officers, as well as the election of those officers. Mrs.Austin was also recognized as the Kansas Advisor of the Year award.

During lulls in the conference some sight-seeing was in order. We visited Arlington National Cemetery where we watched the Changing of the Guard, rode the Metro to the Pentagon to see the 9-11 Memorial, visited the ocean, and took a night time trolley tour to see Lincoln, FDR, MLK, Iwo Jima, and Vietnam War Memorials. We also visited the Gateway Arch during the drive there.

It was a jam packed 8 days, between the drive & the conference, but the memories and experiences will stay with us a lifetime!

Philip and Wade also ran for, and were elected as Kansas state TSA officers, and will be serving for the 2019-2020 school year.
