On Saturday, February 8, nine middle school students attended the Southern Plains Honor Band at Andover. Savannah McCreight, Ethan Stopczynski, and Laura Scribner attended the All-League Band at Southwestern College in Winfield on Wednesday, January 22. They spent the morning rehearsing as part of a band of 76 students so the sound was very different. In one piece, Ethan got to play a conch shell as well as his trumpet. After the morning’s rehearsals, they presented a concert at 2:30.
Savannah McCreight, Tabitha Brown, and Laura Scribner attended the K-State Concert Band Clinic in Manhattan on January 24-26. As part of this weekend, they attended a Boston Brass Concert and also heard the K-State Wind Ensemble play alone and with the Boston Brass. There were 727 students attending this from all over the state of Kansas. After their auditions, they were placed in bands and handed the music Friday . . .

Jared and Lydia Stopczynski were grade-level winners in the DAR essay contest. The topic this year was "The Voyage of the Mayflower". Their essays will be sent on to the state competition. Emily Scribner also participated in the contest. Congratulations to our amazing Flinthills students.
