3rd Grade Art Students are excited to be exploring art in a new way. Choice Art is a method of teaching where students are taught new skills each class, but then are free to pursue their own ideas. The knowledge they learn from the mini-lessons help their problem solving and critical thinking skills as they are challenged to figure out how to take their ideas and make them into a reality for others to see. Choice Based Art is part of the TAB method (Teaching Artistic Behavior) where      students learn to think like an artist. Many students find this challenging as they are encouraged to explore their creativity in new ways. Students have centers where they draw, paint, collage, sew, weave or sculpt. Given the tools to create, it is amazing what these students can create when given time, materials, and encouragement. When your child brings home an artwork, ask them to tell you about the ideas behind it. You’ll be amazed at the level of thought that goes into these sculptures!
