FHS DUET ACTING

SUPERIOR RATING AT INTERNATIONALS!

Flinthills High School 2017 Seniors, Cody Alvord and Holton Nelson, received a “Superior Rating” at the International Thespian Conference, which is the highest rating possible.  The two young men represented Kansas in Duet Acting after qualifying for Nationals at the state conference.  A superior rating at Internationals is rare.  One hundred and fifty Duet Acts competed and only a handful were deemed as superior.  Several observers made a point of telling Cody and Holton that their duet act “raised the bar” in their competition round.

The International Thespian Conference does not separate performers by school size.  The competition spans all students on equal terms.  Cody and Holton proved that their acting expertise is comparable to private performing arts schools, and 6A schools across the country who were also competing at the International Thespian Festival.  Schools flew half way around the world to participate!

The conference was extremely educational and inspiring.  Workshops were presented by theatre professionals from all over the world.  Several of the excellent shows chosen to perform by schools across the country were The Hunchback of Notre Dame, Steel Magnolias, Memphis, West Side Story, 1776, Sweeney Todd: The Demon Barber of Fleet Street, Heathers and Fox on the Fairway.  The effort of The International Thespian Society to support, teach, recognize and inspire theatre students and teachers is outstanding.

Cody and Holton will attend Butler Community College in the fall with Full Tuition and Book Theatre Scholarships.
